The Angoulême International Comics Festival is the leading French comic book festival and the second largest in Europe in terms of awareness and participation rates after the International Bands Fair drawn from Lucca, Italy. It takes place every year in January and combines exhibitions, debates, meetings, and numerous dedication sessions. Many prizes are awarded, including the Grand Prix of the city of Angoulême, which rewards an author for all of his work, and the Fauve d’Or, which is rewarded to an exceptional album published the previous year.
